I want to start with this first when we start talking about context clues and inferences. A lot of people hate using the dictionary, but you can also use a dictionary on the web like www.dictionary.com
This is a great resource to have open as you are reading or doing worksheets. However, you can always have the “old” dictionary that is on paper too.
Sometimes a dictionary is the best way to figure out a word because not only does it give you the definition of a word but it also gives you synonyms (words that have the same meaning) right there in the dictionary.
However, BE CAREFUL…just because a word is in the dictionary as another choice DOES NOT make it the correct word. You have to read for context. Does that word “fit in” with what the meaning is? This is where your context clues skills will come in handy.More ... Less ...
