She's the mercurial firecracker Boardwalk Empire Season 4 Episode 9 who got into a fistfight with Nuck and then made love to him in the season's ninth episode, “Marriage and Hunting.” Arriving unannounced, she throws Nucky for a bit of a loop. And what’s more, she’s hard to pin down and seems to be in no mood to pick up where Nucky and her last left off. In fact, Atlantic City underling gangster Mickey Doyle (Paul Sparks) appears to be taking a shine to her, and
Boardwalk Empire Season 4 Episode 9 she doesn’t seem to mind the attention. Nucky doesn’t really know where he stands and he doesn’t like it. Several threads simmering all season come to a boil tonight. Yes, “Boardwalk Empire” takes a long time to coalesce, but we’ll admit, when its early chess piece moves begin to fall into place, and you can see the forest for the trees on the board, boy does it get good. In tonight’s absorbing episode, Nucky Thompson’s (Steve Buscemi) latest booze shipment from Florida arrives with some unexpected cargo. It’s Sally Wheet (Patricia Arquette), Nucky’s lady in the Sunshine State who is overseeing the business. “Nucky’s shipment from Florida comes with some unexpected cargo; Eli feels the heat from the Feds when Knox uncovers new evidence of the Thompsons’ escapades; Willie reconsiders his recent choices after a talk with his uncle; Chalky clashes with Narcisse over control of the Northside.” Here’s a show description of “Boardwalk Empire”: “The series chronicles the life and times of Nucky Thompson, the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City, who was equal parts politician and gangster. A bustling little city by the seashore, totally dependent upon money spent by tourists, Atlantic City’s popularity rose in the early 20th century and peaked during Prohibition. The resort’s singular purpose of providing a good time to its visitors – whether lawful or not – demanded a single mentality to rule the town. Success of the local economy was the only ideology, and critics and do-gooders weren’t tolerated. By 1900, a political juggernaut, funded by payoffs from gambling rooms, bars, and brothels, was firmly entrenched. For the next 70 years, Atlantic City was dominated by a partnership comprised of local politicians and racketeers. This unique alliance reached full bloom in the person of Enoch ‘Nucky’ Johnson – the second of three bosses to head the Republican machine that dominated city politics and society.” Daughter Maitland has a change of heart and punctures through Purnsley’s lung with a cleaver. It’s as intense a scene as anything we’ve seen this year and there will be furious vengeance to pay back next episode as the brewing war between White and Narcisse seems to have finally erupted. Boardwalk Empire has been dredging up some of its own history this year, but whether the outcome will be different this time around is not yet clear. You wouldn’t think that, with just two brothers, the Thompson family could fold in on themselves so much, yet that’s exactly what’s happening again. Cast ultimate blame where you will (it does come down to Nucky), but the reality is that Eli is being forced to turn on his brother (again) to protect his son Willie. But Willie is also feeling an awful lot like Jimmy 2.0, a fact that Gillian hopefully won’t discover, or he might end up drowned in a whorehouse bathtub. Hit the jump for more. On last week’s episode Eli confronted Nucky after Willie made an unpopular decision. Margaret had a surprise encounter at her job on Wall Street. Joe Masseria ordered Lucky Luciano to return to Tampa and deal with Vincenzo Petrucelli. Gillian went cold turkey with Roy Phillips’ help. Still seething over his brother’s death, Al Capone tried to get Johnny Torrio to turn on rival gangster Dean O’Banion. As the relationship between Chalky and Daughter Maitland deepened, Valentin Narcisse exerted his control over Dunn Purnsley and the Northside. On tonight’s show Nucky’s shipment from Florida will arrive with some unexpected cargo. Eli is going to be backed into a corner when Agent Knox uncovers new dirt on the Thompsons. After talking things over with Nucky, Willie will reconsider his recent life choices. Chalky is going to throw down the gauntlet to Valentin Narcisse, upholding his leadership on the Northside.” The episode was written by Cristine Chambers and Howard Korder, and directed by Tim Van Patten.More ...
