ROTC is a good idea because it gives the students a taste of things to come. The National Guard's role has been twisted until it's now almost no different than going in the regular military. The Guard requires a year of duty overseas. Never happened before. Not even in WWII.

I'm very conflicted about what the military really offers people. Having been in the Army, I've seen the bad side of serving - being in combat. Yet, I know that our economy doesn't offer many chances for employment for young people and the military will feed, house, and clothe them.
