September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. The International Association for Suicide Prevention, in conjunction with the World Health Organization, are raising awareness of mental health issues.

This board is important to me personally because I survived suicidal impulses related to being transgender, and many of my friends in the LGBT community survived similar incidents... and of course some don't. Thank you for spreading awareness of suicide, especially in the LGBT community. Too many lives are being lost. I work with tne trans youth community to help prevent suicide because I know how close I came to being another statistic.
Many are affected in many communities...much like bullying. I do not mean that in a mean way, I myself have dealt with suicide in my family. I think it's amazing that you're reaching out and working with kids, so they know they aren't alone.
Jack, I think that this is a huge issue for this community. More and more kids feel okay expressing their orientation--I've seen such a large increase in openness in LBGT teens and in straight teens being accepting. Discussion of equality, marriage equity, and acceptance are commonplace, now. This is so very important. I think about this a lot in honor of some very good friends who had to forge through a time when things were not opening up. Wish they opened faster.
I really should have said that as well! Thank you so much for sharing your story... it's so important. I hope I didn't sound jerky! I've been touched and affected by suicide as well and understand.

This board means a lot to me. I had one of my best friends very deep in depression and ended up trying to hurt herself but luckily she got help and is doing well.. But I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to have had to lose her.. I often feel lucky people found her or else I could've lost one of my closest friends. I'll be putting out a candle tomorrow night no doubt

It is SO important for folks to be educated on suicide... cause, prevention and treatment.
