For years and year I was plaugued by migraines. Migraines that were so bad I would loose my eye sight. I couldn't stand to have light or sound anything in the room with me. I would lay as still as I possible could under a blanket not even able to scream for the pain. Of course these were the very extreme cases and most of the time I could stand the migraine as long as I didn't have to move I would be ok. They tried numerous medications over the years and sometimes I would get 2 or 3 a month and sometimes I wouldn't get one for 6 months. There was really no explaination or pattern that we could find. Not even stress.

So a time came when I had an accident that lead to allot of analysis on both my brain and my neck and shoulder area. I saw a physical therapist three times a week who specialized in head trauma. One day I walked in and told her I was getting a migraine. A person can always feel them coming a day or two before they hit. Well, she told me there is really no such thing as a migraine. Of course my jaw dropped to the floor hearing those words, and I started to vehemently oppose her statement when she just looked at me and said "ah.. hear me out" and so I sat down to hear what she was going to tell me. She'd helped me with various pain control techniques for a year by this time. I figured she did know what she was talking about. She explained about the muscles in the neck and shoulder, about how when we get uptight, or sit in one space to long or don't sit very much and/or walk to much, they aren't sure why it happens, but the muscles contracting and loosening is what causes a migraine. She taught me to simply roll my shoulders in a 360 degree roll forwards and around 10 times and backwards and around 10 times. She told me to do this at least twice a day and I wouldn't get migraines anymore. I do the exercises at least twice a day, sometimes much more, I just do it when I'm relaxing, or sitting at the computer, when ever anyone isn't watching me. I've been migraine free for almost 2 years now. And I think about, and am thankful for my wonderful physical therapist every day of my life.
