Freestyle Swimming For Life

Category: Health & Fitness | 1206 views | Created: 05/24/12
Swimming is a lifelong sport. I'm finding that I am becoming a faster swimmer in my, um, late late 30's than I was in my teens. The key stroke for master's swimming is the freestyle, or Australian crawl. Learn how to do it here.

how long does it take to get used to the breathing and people to kick and stroke at the same time? I'm joining the team and am struggling

Hi Christian, I think that the breathing is the most difficult skill to learn and perhaps the one that takes the longest to become comfortable with. I would say someone who swims 1-2 per week could take up to a year until they are fully comfortable swimming continuously. I coach a lot of masters swimmers and this is the greatest hurdle. having said this, it is a truly fantastic sport to stick with!

Not a silly question! It is like doing a fast somersault. You get used to it pretty quickly with a little practice.
