Seriously, it is almost impossible around the holidays. Even if you don't have sugar treats at home, they are handed out freely just about everywhere you go! I suppose if you're going sugar free, early Jan is probably the best time to try it! :)

I read the NEJM article when it came out and I was pretty surprised. I got rid of processed sugar but use maple and agave. I try to eat fresh foods. I can't really figure out what the benefits are as how as how I feel, but I still like to get as close to natural food as possible.

Too much sugar doesn't seem to mess with my personality too much but it does make me feel physically terrible.

This is a great start but I think there's more that can be added. I'm interested to know more about how sugar affects behavior. Both adults and children. We're going on a no sugar day with my son today because his behavior has been awful the few days. Too much Christmas sweets.

that is a great suggestion. I know from personal experience that when I eat too much sugar I feel sick & I get pretty cranky & short with people around me. I poked around and couldn't find any research to support this link, though, so if you come across anything interesting please add it! I'd be super interested!

I have been thinking about going sugar-free in our household for a week to see what happens. I know how badly it affects my preschooler! Very difficult to avoid sugar around the holidays though.
