Five Leadership Lessons From James T. Kirk

Category: Entertainment | 20420 views | Created: 03/19/12
Captain James T. Kirk is one of the most famous Captains in the history of Starfleet. There’s a good reason for that. James T. Kirk was a quintessential leader, who led his crew into the unknown and continued to succeed time and time again.

Nothing about losing shirts?

Surely you jest -- I would not follow James Tiberius Kirk even out of curiosity to see what blunder he would make next. Jean Luc Piccard was a much better leader -- more brains and less reliance on testosterone.

Guy - I could not disagree more! Kirk was an amazing leader and it was a different style than Jean Luc. These examples support my point and I invite you to make a similar board on Jean Luc and let the universe decide... but as far as I am concerned... Without Kirk you can never have Jean Luc... and Kirk was right for Enterprise 1701-A... like Jean Luc was right for the large cruise ship Enterprise D. Captain Jean Luc Stubbings of the USS LOVE BOAT!

Arguably, in many ways, Kirk was the greater man. But, Picard, was the greater leader. Now that said, in Kirk's time, a leader who also created output was probably more necessary than in Picard's time. Different leadership styles for different situations.

Love these clips, and your musings, as great ways to illustrate leadership.

Boldly go where no man has gone before! I personally enjoy #1, never stop learning. I'm curious to get an opinion on how to encourage the generation before (I'm in my 30s) us to continue learning. We have more resources at our fingertips and sharing this with an older generation who are not as familiar can be difficult.

I expected this to be amusing and it turned out to be really insightful. I'd call that a win.

You have inspired me. I posted several blog posts on leadership and used clips from Sister Act and Dead Poets Society. http://www.jackofalltraining.com/blog
